A Heart-Touching Story of a Loving Dad

A Heart-Touching Story of a Loving Dad

As the founder of an e-commerce clothing brand, one of the things I enjoy most is participating in pop-up markets.

It gives me the chance to meet so many people—mostly cat lovers, along with their families and friends. Often, someone will point toward our booth or clothing rack and nudge the person beside them:

“Look! Cat T-shirts!”

Those little moments always make me smile.

This past Saturday, I was at a pop-up at Ponce City Market in Atlanta. While I was helping a customer, I noticed a man stop by our booth.

I told him, “You can get a free cat sticker if you scan the code and follow us on Instagram.”

He nodded and said, “I’ll look at the T-shirts, too.”

A few moments later, he found our Little Cat Tee, featuring a small black cat.

While checking out, he told me he was buying it for his daughter.

“My daughter had a black cat,” he said. “The cat passed away a couple of weeks ago, and she’s been having a very tough time. As soon as I saw this little black cat T-shirt, I knew I was going to get it for her.”

My heart sank when I heard his story.

He went on to tell us that his daughter has a tender heart and loves cats. She often volunteers at cat shelters and helps with community events.

He had traveled from Houston to Atlanta to watch a Braves game. Before leaving, he said:

“Next time I come, I’ll definitely bring my daughter with me and take her to this market. I’m sure she would love to see your stuff.”

I was deeply touched.

At first, my heart broke for his daughter and the loss of her beloved cat. But standing there with tears in my eyes, I also felt incredibly honored that this loving dad had chosen one of our shirts as a small way to comfort his daughter—and that he wanted to bring her to meet us someday.

Moments like this remind me why I built Mitty Mau.

It was never only about making cat T-shirts.

It is about comfort, love, connection, and sharing strength—especially during the moments when someone needs them most.

Sometimes, a little black cat on a T-shirt can carry a much bigger message:

You are loved.
You are not alone.
